The TAFE Response Unit (TRU) has been set up to provide immediate support to industry and workers affected by workplace redundancies.
Employers and employees wanting information about career and training options can telephone the TAFE Response Unit helpline 1800 303 319.
The helpline provides direction on how workers can gain new qualifications, upgrade existing qualifications and formalise workplace skills.
As a member of the TAFE Response Unit, Central Institute of Technology can help you use your existing skills, knowledge and experience to get a formal qualification.
Our Recognition of Prior Learning program, commonly referred to as RPL, takes into account all relevant skills, knowledge and experience that you have regardless of the way you got them.
This includes experience and training you have gained through paid work, volunteer work and/or any previous training.
Through the assessment process you may be able to gain a complete qualification or, if you have gaps in your knowledge, parts of a qualification which you can then complete with any additional training.
The key methods of evaluation include:
- Assessing your knowledge, skills and experience against specific criteria
- Resume
- Direct observation of your work

- work samples
Recognition of Prior Learning may also be referred to as:
- Skills Recognition
- Recognition of Current Competencies
- Upfront Assessment or Challenge Testing
