CS04 - Advanced Diploma of Art and Design (Animation/Ceramics/Fashion and Textile Design/Fine Art/Jewellery (50754)
This qualification will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge required for contemporary professional practice in the visual arts. You will have the opportunity to specialise in one of the following studio areas; painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, printmedia and digital art. While the emphasis is on studio skills and developing an individual creative practice, you will also learn about visual culture and how to develop project that integrate ideas with visual research and hand skills or new technologies. Participation in industry projects, such as public art, aw well as exhibitions and arts events developing skills which assist in preparing you for the realities of studio practice.
This course prepares students to practice as artists. After the guided Studio Practice in the Diploma course, students are assisted to develop their own topics and ideas that will establish the base for an individual art practice. Studio space is provided for each participant where they are tutored by recognised contemporary art practitioners in each area. Professional practice is a core unit where students prepare for the Graduate Exhibition at the completion of the course.
Graduates form the Advanced Diploma are very well trained and can now begin their careers as artists. Support and reward for successful students comes from the Graduate Exhibition where professional gallery directors view the work and select participants for upcoming exhibitions. A catalogue containing artists’ statements and photographs of the graduates work is produced as an opener into the world of an exhibiting artist. Students compete for a public art commission which also brings them into focus in the art industry. Some students have been selected as artists in residence in country towns. Those who wish to continue visual art studies at university, prove to be well prepared and successful students.
One year (2 semesters) full time. Approximately 20 hours per week.

Central Institute of Technology provides Bridging and Entry courses which are designed for those who are looking for a pathway into mainstream vocational education and training programs.
Courses include:
General Education Studies (including Literacy, Numeracy, Career Development and Dyslexia courses) and Indigenous Studies; English as a Second Language; Disabilities Studies.
All enquiries, applications and enrolments in foundation courses are handled directly by the College. Students in Access and Bridging Courses pay a course fee of $25 plus resource fees for materials. Please see the contact details below for further information.
To enrol for most full-time courses you must first
apply for admission through the TAFE Admissions Centre. For more information about this process go to the
Applying and Enrolling page of the Central Institute of Technology website.
There are 2 semesters in each year:
1st semester runs from February to June and applications close in November (October for courses requiring submission of a folio) of the previous year while;
2nd semester runs from July to December and applications close in May/June.
NB Not all courses are offered full-time in each semester.
Formal applications to study full-time in Semester 1, 2010 closed on Friday 13 November 2009 . A late fee of $75.00 is payable after this date. Late applications will accepted until 9 December 2009.

Unit availability and enrolment times and venues for Semester 1 2010 will be available in January. Enrolments will take place in late January/early February. Acceptance is on a first come first served basis at the relevant campus.
If you are continuing in the same course, re-enrolment details will be made available through your study area.
Central Institute of Technology offers many units (and even some entire courses) for study off-campus or by flexible delivery (e.g. online). Some of these units (or courses) have standard enrolment periods. Others can be started at anytime and you then usually have a certain timeframe to complete them. Please call 1300 300 822 to be put in touch with the appropriate study area and find out full details of flexible study options available.
If you have previously completed study at Central Institute of Technology or another TAFE College you may be able to claim exemptions. For more information on obtaining credit for previously completed units, please contact us.
Central Institute of Technology's Skills Recognition Service is designed to help you to gain formal recognition for the skills and knowledge you may already have. This may mean that you are given a credit towards a qualification you wish to achieve and you don't waste time covering things you already know. The way in which you have learnt something isn't necessarily important. Skills Recognition places an emphasis on assessment. This can happen in a number of ways:
- A collection of evidence you present to us (portfolio)
- Challenge testing
- Direct observation of your work
