About This Course

This qualification will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge to perform a range of skilled tasks under supervision, and to select, adapt and transfer skills to different situations in a library setting.

At Central TAFE you will learn skills which enable you to acquire, organise, maintain and promote library collections to a variety of client groups.  You will also learn how to access information through the use of technology.  On completion of this course you may find employment in many different library settings such as public libraries, hospital libraries, law libraries, university and school libraries.  You may also work in the information industry, such as organising information for a web-based database service.

All units of this course are delivered online.  Some subjects are taught in clusters or pairs so students wil need to enrol in both units in each cluster.

Specific Job Opportunities for Our Students

Graduates may gain work in a public library, law library, hospital library, university library, school library, government library or company library (amongst others).  A Certificate III will allow you to apply for a postion as a Library Clerk, Library Assistant or Library Officer.


Further Study Options

You will be able to continue your studies towards a Diploma in Library and Information Services, successful completion of which will mean that you are recognised by the industry and the Australian Library and Information Association as a Library Technician

DOMESTIC STUDENTS:
Domestic students are required to pay Course and Resource fees
Course Fees - maximum course fees for 2009 are $570.00 (or $285.00 concession) per semester.   
Resource Fees - cover the cost of any materials & resources provided by the college and will vary depending on the content of the course.

Payment options may be available for those experiencing financial hardship, please ask when you enrol.
Please note: Access & Bridging Programs have a course fee of $25.00 as well as any resource fees.
