This qualification will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge to compose, take, develop and enhance photoimages using various techniques. You will learn about the production of photographic and digital images, camera techniques, lighting, studio and location work. You will also learn skills in computer image management, effective communication, photographic mathematics and business skills.
This course is the first stage in a three stage process designed to introduce students to an industry that has a wide range of demands, from wedding and portraits to industrial and advertising photography as well as fine art photography. Every student is given the opportunity to explore and develop skills in these areas which enables them to find their niche in future photographic employment. The goal is to equip each graduate with a degree of technical skill, visual awareness and knowledge about the photographic medium in relation to our society.
Students will need to have their own equipment to undertake this course, if required within the first week lecturers will advise on necessary features for cameras and other essential equipment. The minimum equipment required:
One year (2 semesters) full time. Approximately 17 hours per week.
Students who complete course C621 the Certificate IV in Photoimaging may find employment as a photographic assistant in a small business or general employment in the industry. For example in laboratories or with wholesale/retail equipment suppliers.
Students who complete this course are eligible to apply for course D208 the Diploma of Photoimaging.

What are Selection Criteria? (more...)Selection criteria are normally only used if there are more people applying than there are places in a course. Selection criteria can be;
- academic (secondary and tertiary study)
- work experience (voluntary or paid)
- industry involvement and life experience
- employment status
- interview or folio
Not all qualifications have selection criteria, but when they do, you will be asked to address them. This means that you must show how your study and experience meet the selection criteria by providing evidence – this could be letters from your employer, academic records, group certificates or other documents.

About Bridging & Entry Courses (more...)Central Institute of Technology provides Bridging and Entry courses which are designed for those who are looking for a pathway into mainstream vocational education and training programs.
Courses include:

1st semester runs from February to June and applications close in November (October for courses requiring submission of a folio) of the previous year while;
2nd semester runs from July to December and applications close in May/June.
NB Not all courses are offered full-time in each semester.
Formal applications to study full-time in Semester 1, 2010 closed on Friday 13 November 2009 . A late fee of $75.00 is payable after this date. Late applications will accepted until 9 December 2009.

Some of these units (or courses) have standard enrolment periods. Others can be started at anytime and you then usually have a certain timeframe to complete them. General Skills Recognition Information (more...)Central Institute of Technology's Skills Recognition Service is designed to help you to gain formal recognition for the skills and knowledge you may already have. This may mean that you are given a credit towards a qualification you wish to achieve and you don't waste time covering things you already know. The way in which you have learnt something isn't necessarily important. Skills Recognition places an emphasis on assessment. This can happen in a number of ways:
- A collection of evidence you present to us (portfolio)
- Challenge testing
- Direct observation of your work

Specific Learning Resources for this Course (more...)Photoimaging students are required to possess a 35mm digital SLR camera and lens and have access to a 35mm film SLR camera and lens. Students will be issued with some materials but once these have been used students will need to supply their own. If a student does not own a camera further information on recommended makes and models will be made available once the course starts.
