Central TAFE tourism student Philippa (Pip) Patterson is setting off on a scholarship to Canada thanks to the global reach of the Rotary organisation.
The Canadian Rotary Club of Kelowna in British Columbia is sponsoring students from around the world to attend a week of tourism events in the nearby Okanagan Valley.
Philippa, from Kardinya, will be joining 20 tourism students of varying nationalities to learn all about tourism marketing and the subsequent community and economic benefits that arise.
Kelowna’s Rotary Club is actually called The Ogopogo Club, named after a mythical monster reported to dwell in the depths of the local Okanagan Lake. The club has contacts with the Northbridge Rotary Club, who were invited to select a local student for the Canadian club to sponsor for this annual event.
Central TAFE lecturer Nicolas Petit said Philippa, who is currently studying a Diploma of Tourism at Central TAFE, thoroughly deserved the opportunity.
“Pip is highly respected by her fellow students and lecturers. She is energetic and inspiring and was a natural choice to receive the scholarship prize,” he said.
Philippa and Nicolas were special dinner guests at the recent Northbridge Rotary Club meeting where the official scholarship presentation took place.
