Services for Staff

How to Join
All staff and students of Central TAFE are eligible to join the Library. Your membership card entitles you to borrow from all five Libraries at Central TAFE. To register, please bring along proof of your employment status.

Loans
Staff may borrow up to 20 items at any one time with extended loan periods available if required. Renewals are permitted provided this is arranged prior to the due date. Items available for loan include books, videos, DVDs, kits, software, journals and audio-visual equipment.

Inter-library Loans
Items not held at Central TAFE Libraries may be obtained from other libraries. The Library has free access to reciprocal borrowing networks of Australia-wide TAFE and certain government agencies. However, loans arranged from some agencies may incur fees and charges.

Online Services
The Library website provides online access to the Library Catalogue, useful websites, web search engines, help sheets and full text journal and newspaper articles from our online databases.

Orientations
Library Orientations are available at all campuses for new students commencing studies at Central TAFE. There are 2 options available:

1) Face to Face Orientations: includes a tour of the library and an introduction to the catalogue by a library staff member.

2) Online Library Orientations: these tutorials are campus based and may be accessed from the Library homepage.

Contact your School Librarian to book an Orientation for your class.

Library & Information Skills Training (LIST) Program
The aim of the LIST Program is to develop the skills of staff and students to find, organise, evaluate and use information effectively and efficiently, and to apply these skills to become independent lifelong learners.

The program consists of face-to-face training; self paced learning guides and online tutorials. We would welcome the opportunity to conduct a training session or a Library orientation for your students. For more details, contact your School Librarian or refer to information literacy.

Information & Research Services
Our librarians provide a range of information and research services and instructional support to College staff. School Librarians can assist academic staff to identify and retrieve relevant and up-to-date information sources to support their teaching and learning needs.

Contact your School Librarian or email requests to helplibrary.

The librarians provide research services for all College staff in the areas of curriculum developments, management initiatives and special projects. For further information, contact your School librarian.

Requesting Resources
School librarians are responsible for the selection and acquisition of appropriate resources for the Library collections. They liaise with program areas to build a collection based on the College's teaching and learning needs. To further develop our collections, the School Librarians welcome and encourage recommendations from lecturers for items to be purchased.

Please complete a 'Library Request to Purchase Resources' form and give it to your School librarian.

Audio Visual (AV) Services
Our AV co-ordinator and AV officers can provide:

  • Photographing of special events and promotions.
  • Video conferencing, video recording and filming productions.
  • Off-air recording and assistance with setting up your audio visual presentations.

Contact the Audio Visual Services Coordinator on 9427 1585 or email John Van Rullen for more details.
