English, Visa and Academic Entrance Requirements

When you apply to study at Central there are certain English, visa and academic requirements you will need to meet. Once you are comfortable that you meet these requirements, find out about how to apply.

English

English Requirements

There are certain English requirements you must meet before you can study at Central. Students applying for a package will require at least an IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 570 (PBT) or 230 (CBT) or 88 (iBT) or equivalent.

The Department of Immigration will require an IELTS test for applicants from some countries.

Please refer to the specific English requirements table below for both Central and university programs. Note some courses require a higher English level.

Completion of the Pearson Test of English Academic – Minimum Level 42
Successful completion of an academic English course at TAFE (upper intermediate) or a recognised English college. For information about TAFE English programs visit www.eti.wa.edu.au
Successful completion of at least one year of study in a CRICOS registered course delivered in Australia.
Note: For students whose visa application will be determined under assessment level 3 or 4 requirements, IELTS is the only English test recognisedfor student visa purposes. Check www.immi.gov.au for details.

Visa

Visa Requirements

When you apply for a visa there are certain requirements you must meet before the visa can be granted.

Full time study

International students in Australia are required to be enrolled in full-time study (an average of at least 20 contact hours per week). Courses cannot be studied part-time - except, if necessary, when completing the last few subjects of a course.

Guardianship Arrangements

If you are under the age of 18 you are required by law to live with a parent or an approved family member or guardian.

Attendance

It is a national government requirement that all international students attend classes otherwise your visa will be cancelled.

Attendance at Central is monitored and recorded.

Overseas Student Health Cover

You are required to take out Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the duration of your stay, prior to entering Australia.

As a condition of enrolment, you are required to pay the OSHC for yourself and all dependent members of your family staying with you in Australia, for the duration of your visa.

Central and Education and Training International use OSHC Worldcare as our preferred provider.

If you are currently studying in Australia must provide ETI with a copy of your health fund membership records showing name, membership number and date of expiry.
