Leanne Clements: 2012 Central Student of the Year

"I have learnt from my time at Central that I am capable of much more than I even realised. I am well on my way to having a very successful business and in turn I am much more confident that I can actually make it happen", said Leanne.

"As a mature aged student it is easy to think that it is too late to learn new things but I believe I have completely proved that to be wrong".

Since graduating Leanne has secured employment with a leading firm in the photography industry. Clearly a name to watch for in the future, Leanne is both a great ambassador for Central and a very worthy recipient of the 2012 Student of the Year honour

“To be named the 2011 Central Institute Student of the Year was an honour that I will treasure for the rest of my life.

Along with a tremendous feeling of pride at being recognised by my Central Institute lecturers, winning the award has given me a great deal of self belief and confidence in my ability to achieve my goals.

This self belief has allowed me to excel in my university studies, and, together with the industry recognition which comes with this award, I have been able to gain employment with one of Australia’s biggest mining companies.

As a mature age student, winning the 2011 Central Institute student of the year is evidence that it is never too late to follow your dreams and, with hard work and dedication, we can all achieve our goals."

Rhys Heron: 2010 Central Student of the Year

“It was a fantastic feeling to be announced 2010 Student of the Year. Less than a month after winning the award I received a promotion to Marketing and Communications Officer in a government organisation, a role which usually requires years of prior experience.

At 19 I couldn’t be happier with where I am. The 2010 Student of the Year award will do leaps and bounds for my career and personal confidence and will act as a shining point in my portfolio far into the future.

It has opened doors that would have otherwise remained closed for years.”

Michiyo Kikuchi: 2009 Central Student of the Year

“Winning Student of the Year 2009 was the best experience. It has been great for my personal business and my future. It opened up many opportunities for me, including offers of Jewellery Apprenticeships, recognition from industry and clients (due to being featured in a trade Jewellery magazine after winning) and further study at University with a year and half advanced standing.

I have learnt so much about the technique of Jewellery making from Central and I am grateful to be able to build on this at University.

The experience of winning Student of the Year 2009 has been a significant factor in the development of my career.”
