E-Counselling
Central Institute of Technology's E-Counselling is a free confidential online service providing students with support and advice on issues that may be affecting study and well-being.
Do you have questions about:
- mental health issues?
- study problems?
- relationship difficulties?
- stress management?
This online question and answer service is not intended to replace therapeutic face-to-face counselling of an ongoing nature.
However, in some circumstances you may feel more comfortable talking to a psychologist via email.
How does it work?
E-Counselling is available to enrolled Central students. You can access the service by logging into the Student Portal using your student ID and Password.
You can ‘talk’ to a counsellor at any time using the secure E-Counselling email. The arrangement allows you to re-read information provided by the counsellor. You and your counsellor can also use your online communication to review what has been discussed and to identify what progress has been made.
You will receive a response within 3 working days. (E-Counselling is not a crisis service. If in crisis please contact Crisis Care on 1800 101 108 or go to the emergency department at the nearest public hospital).
How long before I have a response?
We will endeavour to respond to your enquiry within 3 working days.
However, if you are experiencing a crisis and require immediate assistance, please contact:
Lifeline: 131 114
Crisis Care: 1800 199 008
It is important to note that E-Counselling does have some limitations, such as the absence of visual/auditory information.
In some instances clarification may be necessary on the part of both, counsellor and student. Such open and interactive dialogue is encouraged.
When is E-Counselling not appropriate?
E-Counselling may not be appropriate if you are experiencing a crisis, highly complex situations, fear for your personal safety or if you require immediate medical treatment for a physical condition or mental health issue.
